Word of Wisdom from Bill Gates
Are you prepared for work?
Rule 1: Work life is not fair. Get used to it.
Rule 2: The world won't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.
Rule 3 : If you think your lecturer is tough, wait till you get a boss.
Rule 4 : Your college may have done away with winners and losers, but life has not.
Rule 5 : Work life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you find yourself. Do that on your own time.
ATCEN CAREERS : ATCEN Apprenticeship Leadership Learning Program
As the leader in human performance and business consulting, ATCEN offers exciting work opportunities to graduating students and recent graduates. The diverse career opportunities, challenging and interesting work culture in ATCEN brings out the uniqueness in each team player.
Our commitment to develop our people to their fullest potential makes ATCEN an excellent place to begin your career. ATCEN believes in sharing knowledge and developing talented promising individuals. In line with this practice, we offer short-term apprenticeships to individuals who hunger for an opportunity to acquire more knowledge and real-life experiences in addition to what they are learning in college or university.
The dictionary defines ‘apprentice’ as a beginner or a learner. This is an accurate description of what an apprentice is to ATCEN. A learner or a knowledge seeker is exactly what we are looking for.
The main goal of the ATCEN Apprenticeship Leadership Learning Program is to provide students with a hands-on opportunity to experience work in a people development and consulting environment. The 8-week program acquaints you with ATCEN’s integrated approach to Business Development, Delivering Service Quality and Client Relationship Management (CRM), which offers valuable work experience while developing an entrepreneurial mindset.
As an apprentice, you are a full-time member of the ATCEN Education Network. You work with ATCEN’s team of Consultants in various specializations; receive day-to-day coaching and knowledge sharing from the ATCEN Team.
Oftentimes, leadership and policy are disconnected activities enacted by individuals who function in silos without the benefit of dialogue or interaction with each other. The focus of the Leadership for Learning Program is to demystify and analyze education leadership and education policy and the respective roles that program participants can play within these areas.
TheApprenticeship Leadership Learning Program is a project by the ATCEN Group an independent private company specializing in people and brand development. Currently in its fifth year of operations, the Group is passionate about a mission which will in time enable institutions to expand learning and enrichment opportunities for all people.
This is captured in the contagious optimism of Founder & Group CEO Ernie Chen who says, “Every day we play an active role in presenting a vital, vibrant daily record of history in the making. We invite discussion and dialogue and seek to ignite students, educators and education leaders' interest in the world and issues around them.”
As part of its mission, ATCEN also strives to assist educators to foster intellectual growth, curiosity and civic participation.
What kind of interns are you looking for?
Response from ATCEN Founder & Group CEO Ernie Chen:
“We are looking for interns who have heart. The way I look at it, efficiency is of no use if you go about your tasks and feel nothing along way. We want interns who are vocal and have an opinion and who aren’t afraid of hard work. You can get someone who is about to carry out tasks given, but if they derive no satisfaction from it, they will not be happy and won’t see the lessons behind every mistake.
I see so many young people who are terrified of hard work. Ask them to work until 9pm and they’ll cringe as if you’ve ask them to sign their life over. They want things easy – come in to work at 9am and leave at 5pm. Where’s the quality in that? They don’t know how to challenge themselves and are afraid of obstacles. You never know what you’re made of until you go through difficulties. As a basis to go on, a part of the desire to better themselves and pass on the skills to others, these are some values they should have as foundation:
Strong interpersonal skills
Ability to multi-task
Taking constructive criticism well
Strong writing skills
Punctuality
Effective communication
Knowing when to say, "I don't know" is also important. This is OK. Being an Intern means you are learning as well. The best response I have ever heard was "I do not know the answer to this, but I do know who would." WOW. You have just shown that, no, you don't know the answer, but you still know how to find the answer.”
Apprentice Responsibilities
Work with internal support functions
Assist with clients’ people development and consulting projects
